Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the mother’s placenta after birth for ingestion, known as placentophagy.

The purpose of placentophagy is to reintroduce the beneficial vitamins, minerals, hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to her body following labor. It helps to restore a more balanced body, regulating hormones and preventing “baby blues” and postpartum depression. It helps to increase breast milk production, shortens healing and bleeding time, increases maternal energy levels, increases iron levels, and provides an overall feeling of wellness. It also helps to prevent the signs of aging! I will pick up your placenta at the hospital or your home. It is not necessary for you to be there during the process (or worry about cleaning or entertaining.)

There are two encapsulation methods to choose from: the Traditional Method (TM) and the Raw Method. With both, the placenta is dehydrated and ground and the end result are capsules. Each mother should decide for herself which method is right for her and this is something we will discuss.
